This
was Steve's first limited edition on china after the closure
of Moorcroft Enamels. The 27 cm coup plate provides the ideal
surface to display the qualities of freehand painted china.
The detail and brilliance are stunning.
The
Robin is based on a photo of a bird that has been a regular
visitor to our garden for the last four years. She flies onto
the fence at the back door and cheekily waits to attract our
attention. When we hold out our hand tempting her with pinhead
oats, or better still live mealworms, she flies down, sits
on our hand and helps herself. When there are young to be
fed she will collect several worms and fly off, returning
after a short time for more. Only after several trips will
she stop to eat herself.
We
are also lucky to have regular visits to our garden from Long-tailed
Tits and a Nuthatch. Steve was therefore able to combine three
of our favourite birds with appropriate backgrounds. He has
probably gained an international reputation through his bird
paintings, but in fact he is just as good at painting trees,
flowers and many other subjects!
The
piece is therefore named after the road where we live.
