This
superb PEX box was created by Stephen as a trial piece but
the Design Board of Moorcroft rejected it, possibly because
it was too good and required too much painting. Instead Stephen
was asked to paint two more pieces so that there were three
pieces to auction at the May Open Weekend in 2001 - one each
day. Prices realised on the three days ranged from £480
to £760.
Stephen
is not one to be sentimental about his work and has kept almost
nothing of it over the years. This is one case where he felt
he was able to produce somethinglike his best work in enamels
and if there was one piece he would like to have owned it
would have been this. It's not difficult to see why!
